Crossing Howe Sound on the 20-minute ferry ride, we are transported into another world, a special place where life is simpler, less stressful, quieter. There’s no hustle, no bustle, and certainly no rat race. In a modern world where everything’s always moving faster and faster, it feels really good to hit pause. To reflect. To exhale. To bathe in the soothing sights, sounds, and smells of nature… To connect with what really matters.
The sense of community here is so strong you can almost feel the hugs. It fills us with resolve to protect our community and unique way of life. When things go wrong, we look after one another. Getting back on our feet is a community effort.
Now is one of those times. The economic impact of COVID-19 is testing Bowen’s businesses’ and organizations’ ability to keep their doors open. Over the years, many have come to signify our unique island culture. Each deserves our whole-hearted support. Losing even a few would be devastating.
It is during crises like this, that we can show ourselves and the world what it means to be a Bowen Islander. How each of us is just a little better for being here. Let’s do this!
